Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti cautioned Thursday that city employees who don’t get vaccinated by Dec. 18 “ought to be ready to lose their job.”

“The City’s employee vaccine mandate is basic to ensuring the health and safety of our labor force and the Angelenos we serve,” Garcetti said in an assertion. “Employees should be vaccinated by December 18, and we are establishing a thorough testing program meanwhile. Let me get straight to the point: any employee who will not be vaccinated by this date ought to be ready to lose their job.”

In August, the L.A. City Council voted to require all city employees to be completely vaccinated against COVID-19 by early October, except if they are allowed an exclusion for medical or religious reasons.

The standard was set to turn into a state of employment on Wednesday.

However, under another arrangement proposed by city authorities, L.A. city workers who still can’t seem to get vaccinated or look for an exception by Wednesday would have more opportunity to get vaccinated — until the finish of Dec. 18.

The arrangement would require endorsement from the Los Angeles City Council before it heads to Garcetti for signing.
