Strong seaward breezes thumped down trees and electrical lines around Southern California short-term while fanning wildfires in Big Sur and Sonoma County.
In Los Angeles County, where a high wind cautioning was active until 3 p.m. Saturday, whirlwinds to 89 mph were recorded at Mt. Lukens in the San Gabriel Mountains, said Mike Wofford, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
Pictures shared via social media showed numerous fallen electrical cables in lower region regions like Altadena. Overturned trees crushed into houses in Monrovia, Ontario and Upland, squashed vehicles in Claremont and obstructed a piece of Pacific Coast Highway west of Heathercliff Road in Malibu.
Southern California Edison revealed 92 blackouts influencing 24,554 clients in its administration region starting at 10 a.m. The greater part – around 20,298 clients – were in Los Angeles County.
